01. 05. 2024
The public May Day celebration, held in Opatje Selo, goes beyond the borders of the Miren-Kostanjevica municipality and is one of the most established in the entire region. It also has a long tradition, as it has been held for more than 50 years. It is a multifaceted event that includes performances by musical artists, cultural and sports associations, games such as raffles and competitions, children’s workshops and more. They also offer a varied culinary experience of local delicacies.
Visitors are greeted by several speakers each year. Over the years, many recognizable names have appeared on stage, such as Borut Pahor, then president of the Republic of Slovenia; Alojz Kovšca, former president of the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia, MEP Matjaž Nemec and other distinguished guests. This year, however, the honor went to Ivo Boscarol.
