25. 11. 2024

On November 20, 2024, at the headquarters of Pipistrel in Ajdovščina, the Post of Slovenia presented a new commemorative postage stamp, dedicated to Ivo Boscarol – a pioneer of electric aviation and the man who set new standards in the global aviation industry.

The guests were welcomed with an introductory speech by Ms. Simona Koser Šavora from Pošta Slovenije, followed by the hosts: Mr. Gabriel Massey, the director of the Pipistrel company, which kindly provided the space for the event; and the deputy mayor of the municipality of Ajdovščina, Mr. Dejan Pišot.

The first stamp was symbolically released by the Marketing Director of Post of Slovenia, Mr. Matej Raspet, who emphasized:
“At the Post of Slovenia, we are very proud of issuing a stamp dedicated to Ivo Boscarol. He is a man who set new standards in the global aviation industry, and also a great humanitarian who inspires many people with his actions and donations. We believe that the stamp we are presenting today will generate great interest not only among philatelists, but also among the general public, because Ivo Boscarol’s achievements have left an indelible mark both in Slovenia and around the world.”

Matej Raspet presented a commemorative album to Gabriel Massey, Ivo Boscarol and Dejan Pišot.

Ivo Boscarol thanked everyone present and said:
“Being depicted on a national postal stamp while still alive is a great rarity and of course a great honor for me. Among all the awards I have received, this one certainly holds a special place, as it comes from an institution that is not directly related to aviation, but presents my achievements to a wider circle of people at home and through philatelists also around the world.”
In his speech Ivo revealed some interesting details about how Slovenians are connected to the history and development of the postage stamp as a means of payment for delivering parcels.

This was followed by the playback of a 3-minute introductory video about Ivo Boscarol, presenting his life, challenges and achievements that placed him in the position where he deserves to be honored with the issuance of a commemorative stamp.

The event was enriched by students of the Šturje Elementary School in Ajdovščina and the Vinko Vodopivec Music School in Ajdovščina with a diverse program of poetry and music.

The official release of the stamp will be on Friday, November 22, as part of the November issue of postage stamps. It will be released in a 16-stamp sheet, accompanied by a cover and the first-day postal stamp, available at the post office in Ajdovščina. The stamp will be on sale at all Slovenian post offices and in the online store www.dezelaznamk.si for one year from the date of issue.

At the end, all participants gathered in the lobby, where they were able to see the Velis Electro, the first electric-powered aircraft to receive EASA certification for use in commercial aviation.
